2011-2012 Airport Heights Math Progress

One of our goals this year was to improve achievement in Math as reported on the SBA test. We’ll get SBA results sometime this summer. In the mean time, we take regular assessments in Math to see how our students are performing and how well our teachers are teaching.

If you’re wondering why the 4th grade scores are so much higher than the 5th grade, it’s because test gets a lot harder as the grades go up. The 5th grade test has more double and triple digit multiplication and division as well as increased work with fractions.

In 2nd grade, 11 (22%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In 3rd grade, 15 (35%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In 4th grade, 12 (42%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In 5th grade, 8 (14%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In 6th grade, 11 (31%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In Kindergarten, 7 (18%) students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

In 1st grade, 10 (29%)students have exceeded the grade level target and are working in more challenging math concepts.

Thank you for this information. It was even more informative to know the number of students that are exceeding the grade level target. It would be nice to have some relativity to the numbers of students too. For example, is 11 students exceeding the grade level target, 20% or 40% of the students?
Thank you for taking the time to relay this information.

I’ve updated the post to show the percentages of students that have exceeded the target and have moved to advanced assessments.
