Join us this Saturday, December 13th, from 12-2 pm, for Dream Big Saturday at Airport Heights School. This will be a celebration of diversity and culture at Airport Heights. Please bring a dish for our multi-cultural potluck and enjoy Hmong, Filipino, and Native Dancing.
Airport Heights serves many bilingual students. Our bilingual curriculum, Treasure Chest, emphasizes oral language, vocabulary, sight words, phonics, reading and writing. The key to the success of the program is the small group setting. A recent unit theme was transportation and a high-frequency word was can. Check out this work from Cindy and Alchris, kindergartners in Ms. Adela’s Treasure Chest class.
from Mrs. Childers, our Health teacher:
Second through sixth graders have just completed the third round of keeping Healthy Futures Logs! First graders took theirs home for November and should be
returning them by Dec. 3rd. Remember, just 3 days of exercising per week for 30 minutes each to qualify for the November prize from the Healthy Futures campaign!
For the month of September we saw 87 logs returned for the Frisbee prize and in October we saw 148 logs returned for the red water bottles. A special thanks goes to Ms. Angela Watts, a parent volunteer, and her anonymous helpers for getting 148 names written on the water bottles! Hopefully, November will be our highest participation yet with logs being returned to receive the nerf football!
It is so great to hear about so many students showing such enthusiasm for getting out and playing to stay fit and healthy. By eating right, and getting exercise, children will lead a lifetime of enjoying healthy bodies.

Mrs. VanGorder’s 6th grade class was delighted to welcome World War II veterans Jean White and Bill Elam for a visit on Veteran’s Day. The class enjoyed asking them many questions about their lives and experience. Bill served in the 1st Armored Division in Italy. Jean served in the Women’s Army Corp, which later became the Air Force. Both took part in a Last Frontier Honor Flight, which helps our veterans visit Washington, D.C. What a special experience to learn about history from those who made it. Thank you!
