Super Sweepers Saturday kicks off weeklong effort on May 12

From the ASD Website:

On Saturday, May 12, citizens from Girdwood to Chugiak may notice Anchorage School District Super Sweepers picking up trash at their schools and surrounding areas. ASD once again is a white-glove sponsor of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s Citywide Cleanup.

Super Sweepers Saturday kicks off the weeklong effort to beautify our community and spread the word about litter prevention. This year marks the Anchorage Chamber’s 44th annual cleanup event.

Volunteer school coordinators organize and motivate their students to pick up trash on and around their school campuses.

Last year, 81 schools participated, with many schools collecting more than 100 bags of trash each. Some of the top-collecting schools included: Fairview, Gladys Wood, Ocean View, Muldoon and Williwaw elementary schools.

Community members can pick up and drop off the orange cleanup bags at their participating neighborhood school, and are encouraged to return the filled bags to the school by the designated trash pickup time.

While most district schools are participating on Super Sweepers Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 12, some are holding their cleanups at other times during the week. Trash pickup on Saturday, May 12 is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., so all trash should be deposited in the school’s pre-determined spot for pickup before 2 p.m.

To enter the iPod Shuffle contest, stop by the school on May 12 to get your bags and entry slips.
